Uncaged Records mainly deals in e-commerce, but also sells, trades and spins records of all music genres locally. The owner created the name inspired by seeing thousands of records being “locked away” and forgotten about in milk crates. His passion is to unleash them back into the wild and share them with anyone who enjoys music. Obviously, he wanted an image that was a true nod to vintage as well as being approachable. I was greatly inspired by the designer, Saul Bass, and the ’60s art movements for his branding. I created an open jail cell to visually state the message as well as symbolizing a record album and set the record in a golden light to convey a sense of energy and newness. The lively feel of the vintage inspired typography helps create a fun approach and conveys movement that directly relates to music. A ’60s color palatte and texture was used to create an authentic touch.
